The Challenge
In 2014 Nottingham Express Transit finalised their plans to more than double the size of their light rail network in Nottingham – to a total of 35km. To keep their world class service secure, the new network required new CCTV equipment along with an upgrade of their existing equipment- so that HD standards could be attained on one common platform. Not only were all new stops spread across a vast area, they ranged from live construction sites to platforms still open to the public with a live running rail network alongside our installations.
Our Approach
We consulted early on with main contractor Taylor Woodrow to put forward their specification, which we felt offered a solution with numerous benefits including HD recording and a seamless video monitoring wall. Our flexibility was key throughout the project. This allowed us to adapt to a fluid construction schedule for CCTV installation and upgrading, often revisiting sites during various construction phases and prioritising key work sites. We were vital in offering an ‘end to end’ solution, providing factory acceptance testing from our offices, and in-house fibre optic splicing and testing. Weekly review meetings ensured that all parties were made aware of any hold points and current work schedule.
The Results
Nottingham Express Transit now have the largest CCTV installation in Nottingham and one of the largest security networks in the UK. They have pioneered a new level of visibility and safety, allowing them to confidently run more regular, and later, services.
As part of this success, discussions are now open to a third tram line, which we hope to be part of in the future.
