The Challenge
Capture video progress updates for G F Tomlinson’s latest project, construction on a 127,000 sqaure ft warehouse for ATL Warehousing & Distributing. They requested bi-annual visits to this site located in Foston, Derbyshire.
These visits would help to highlight various aspects of the project including:
- The scale of the build
- Sustainable aspects
- Jointless internal warehouse floor
- Long term project commitment
The warehouse construction is part of an eight figure investment programme and G F Tomlinson were very keen to have their role in the project covered by high quality film production.
The Approach
To capture such a large scale project, we selected a single operative who would be dispatched at strategic points across the project to capture aerial footage of the site. The drone in use was the DJI mini 4 pro which captures high quality 10 bit video in stunning 4k resolution. The drone allowed our operative to fly above the warehouse, showcasing the sustainable photovoltaic solar panels and 400mm thick walls. These features provide renewable energy and thermal insulation.
The drone’s compact size allows indoor flights to continue progress updates on the interior of the build showcasing the jointless internal warehouse floor. In order to capture the smaller interior spaces, our operative switched from the drone to an on the ground camera setup. The cannon R5 mirrorless camera coupled with a gimbal rig was the best configuration for capturing the smaller spaces. Furthermore, the movement of the gimbal more closely matched the drone footage.
The Result
After completing the site visits, we began assembling the footage. We kept in constant communication with G F Tomlinson while editing to hone in on their vision for the video. Although we went through a few renditions of the video, we finally settled on an edit that G F Tomlinson were happy with.
