the challenge
We were commissioned by the S&C South Alliance to produce a film showcasing their 97% emission free rail site at Llanwern, Wales. This near diesel free rail site was the result of a joint initiative by Network Rail and Colas Rail, which aims to create emission and pollution free rail sites.
The site hosted track regeneration works, during which battery and solar operated tools and lights were used. Our goal was to produce a film to showcase these different site features and elaborate on the benefits of an emission free rail site.
the approach
After back and forth email communication, we held a phone consultation with key S&C South Alliance staff. The aim of this consultation was to understand more about the Llanwern worksite and the S&C South Alliance’s key aims for our video. Following this consultation we organised two filming shifts at the Llanwern rail site with our PTS trained camera operators. Both of these shifts were during a 72 hour rail possession, where much of the track regeneration works took place, ensuring that we could film all of the sites featured equipment in action.
To minimise costs for the S&C South Alliance, we simply utilised a one person film crew for each shift. Both of these filming shifts concentrated on capturing different battery and solar powered site equipment in action. Additionally, we carried out interviews with staff from the S&C South Alliance, Colas Rail and Prolectric on site. These interviews served as the narrative backbone to the video, giving context to each scene and further elaborating on the technology at the Llanwern site.
Following filming we moved swiftly into post production stages. We provided the S&C South Alliance with an initial draft of the film, giving them an opportunity to provide feedback and request content changes. From here we bought the film to a close, providing the S&C South Alliance with a final high quality film which showcased the Llanwern site in detail.
the result
The S&C South Alliance were provided a high quality production which showcased the new diesel free rail site technology at the Llanwern site. The film has since been used to promote Colas Rail’s and Network Rail’s diesel free initiative, providing exposure to the innovative Llanwern site. The Llanwern site has since picked up heavy attraction from numerous news outlets, such as Construction Manager and Air Quality News.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Inside Out Group. Despite very tight time scales they took the time to plan and resource the production of the film. On site they understood they needed to be invisible and they were. During filming and editing they were always open to feedback, but equally ensured their knowledge and experience in producing films was at the forefront. Well done Inside Out Group. I look forward to working with you again on my future projects.”
