The Challenge
Produce a film showcasing Colas Rail UK’s continuing track works at Cambridge South. We’re already familiar with this project, having created a video for the works which took place over Christmas 2023. We were keen to embrace the challenge of capturing the works again.
There were a few objectives this film needed to achieve:
- Show the progress of the scheme
- Provide background on the project and it’s partners
- Details of the works
- Future of the scheme
It was up to us to find a way to convey all this information in an audio-visual format, whilst keeping the video fast paced and engaging.
The Approach
For the filming process itself, we were confident we could capture all the necessary footage in a single shift.
We sent one of our filming operatives to Cambridge to capture footage of the works. Our operative used a variety of gear to capture footage:
- DJI Mini 4 Pro for aerial shots
- Canon R5 with a variety of lenses for capturing details of the works
- GoPro’s for dynamic timelapse and video from a unique point of view
There weren’t any personnel on site for our operative to interview about the background of the project and future of the scheme. We would have to find an alternative solution to incorporate these objectives into the video.
The Result
The final cut was a tightly edited piece that showcased the progress at Cambridge South with dynamic aerial shots, immersive timelapse sequences, and close-ups of the intricate work on the track. The aerial footage provided a comprehensive view of the project’s scale, while the GoPro and Canon R5 shots offered detailed insights into the precision and effort behind the track works.
Jason Eves’ voiceover tied everything together, providing essential context and answering key questions about the project’s background, its current status, and its future goals. The script was carefully timed to complement the visuals, making the video feel cohesive and engaging throughout.
